Mark Epp

P.E., P.Eng., M.Eng.
President

Mark has 33 years of industry experience mostly in the alternative fuels business. Since the 1980s he has been involved extensively in the engineering and development of natural gas equipment for the compressed natural gas industry including reciprocating compressors, pressure vessels, equipment packaging, gas management systems and controls. In the mid-90s Mark joined Ballard Power Systems as a Project Team Leader on the 250 kW fuel cell power-plant program. He was responsible for a team of engineers that successfully developed and delivered major plant subsystems including natural gas fuel delivery, air turbocharging, thermal management and de-ionized water systems. In 2002 Mark founded and incorporated Jenmar Concepts Inc, a consulting engineering company providing expertise on alternative energy projects and product developments in the fields of compressed natural gas (CNG) compressors, hydrogen compressors, liquefied natural gas (LNG), natural gas fuel processing, CNG/ HCNG/Hydrogen fuel systems, LNG/CNG and blended hydrogen and CNG facility construction, permitting and industry training. Mark has an ongoing commitment to the development of industry standards having made significant contributions with expert membership on various standards committees including the CSA Z276 (LNG), ISO 16923/16924 (LNG/CNG), CSA B108 (CNG) and CSA B401 (CNG).

Mark is a licensed professional engineer in BC, Alberta, Yukon, Washington State, and holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering and Master of Engineering degrees from the University of British Columbia. He has been granted five US patents in the areas of natural gas compression and fuel processing. Mark has been published in Pipeline and Gas Journal (1995) and is also the author of Chapter 8 entitled “CNG Compressors” of the McGraw-Hill Compressor Handbook (published 2001).

Duncan Currie

Senior Project Engineer

Duncan is a professional engineer with more than 13 years of engineering design and project management experience in the alternative energy sector. Educated at the University of British Columbia, Duncan received his B.A.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering with Distinction in 2010 and qualified as a professional engineer in 2014. With a strong foundation in natural gas compression, storage, vaporization, pressure reduction, facility design, and balance of plant design, Duncan has successfully led interdisciplinary design teams in the execution of numerous commercial and industrial CNG and LNG infrastructure projects on behalf of public utilities, municipalities and oil and gas companies in Canada and the USA. Duncan possesses an extensive knowledge of industry codes and standards and is an active member of the CSA Z276 (LNG) technical committee.  

Duncan is a licensed professional engineer in BC, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Tennessee.  

Jac Neels

P.Eng.
Senior Engineer

Jac Neels, P.Eng., is a senior mechanical engineer with 34 years of industry experience related to the design, development, manufacture and construction of alternative fuel facilities and equipment that process and/or use natural gas, hydrogen and other hydrocarbon fuels. Jac is a highly respected mentor, team leader, management consultant, regulatory consultant and technical expert in the development of fuel cell balance of plant equipment, pressurized gas equipment, with extensive knowledge of ASME BPV and ASME piping codes. He is an expert in the process and mechanical design of CNG pressure reducing stations (PRS) for off-grid industrial CNG transport and end-use handling. Jac is also an expert in the engineering of upgrades and new construction design of maintenance facilities for alternative fueled vehicles including CNG. Jac has consulted extensively on liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects in the areas of siting, equipment approvals, risk assessment and permitting. Jac is an expert in the application of CNG and LNG industry codes including CSA B108, NFPA 52, NFPA 59A, CSA Z276, CGA and others. Jac’s expertise is recognized by the industry and has been sought after to draft and develop new codes and standards. Jac has taken key roles as Code Champion in the development of the CSA Z276 Annex B (Small LNG Facilities) and CSA Z276 Annex D (Fixed and Mobile LNG Fueling Stations) standards for the LNG industry. Jac has also drafted the seed document for the development of a standard CSA/ANSI LNG 4.1 for LNG fueling dispensers and is a regulatory consultant to the Yukon Government.

Jac is a licensed professional engineer in BC, Ontario, Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut and holds Bachelor and Honor degrees in mechanical engineering from the University of Pretoria, South Africa. He is a fully trained in LOPA/SIL and an experienced HAZOP facilitator having led numerous HAZOP and HAZID studies for both the CNG and LNG industry.

Allan Robinson

Senior Electrical Engineer

Allan Robinson is a Senior Electrical Engineer with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering, from the University of British Columbia. He has 22 years of industrial experience previously holding leadership positions at Subsea Control Systems and Clean Current Power Systems. Allan is an expert in the design of electrical power systems including electrical services, switchgear, electrical distribution, power generation and designs within hazardous locations. He has designed a large number of natural gas infrastructure projects including CNG fuelling stations, LNG fuelling stations and CNG/LNG vehicle maintenance facility upgrades since he joined Jenmar. Allan has recently worked on the feasibility of quick and fast-charge electrical vehicle charging stations for a leading utility.

Allan is a licensed professional engineer in BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Connecticut, Northwest Territories and Nunavut.

Tristan Miller

P.Eng.
Project Engineer

Tristan Miller graduated with Distinction from the University of British Columbia in 2012, where he earned a B.ASc. in Engineering Physics. Tristan has worked at Jenmar Concepts since 2013 and received his professional engineering designation in 2018. 

Throughout his tenure at Jenmar, Tristan has successfully undertaken multiple assignments related to natural gas fuelling stations, hydrogen fuel cell applications and natural gas / hydrogen vehicle building integration designs. His contributions extend beyond design work, as he also possesses valuable project management experience in both design-construct and consulting projects.

Tristan's skill set encompasses product development, showcasing his ability to bring innovative ideas to fruition. Moreover, his proficiency in pressure piping and ASME vessel designs has positioned him as a valuable asset in addressing complex process design challenges. Tristan's analytical aptitude complements his expertise, and he is adept at employing finite element analysis (FEA) to provide effective and efficient technical solutions.

Bruno Bate

P.Eng.
Project Engineer

Bruno Bate graduated from the University of British Columbia in 2008 receiving a B.ASc. in Engineering Physics, Mechanical Engineering Stream. Bruno began his career with Ballard Power Systems, where he worked in product development with the air-cooled fuel-cell stack division. His work included the development of accelerated lifetime tests for membrane electrode assembly (MEA) durability evaluation, as well as developing analysis tools for lab and field data. His responsibilities included providing systems integration support to clients throughout North America and Europe, both remotely and on-site as needed. 

Beyond hydrogen fuel cell experience with Ballard, Bruno has worked in the Natural Gas industry with OEMs in the automotive industry, such as Westport Innovations, as well as industrial equipment manufacturers such as IMW Compressors. Bruno has developed in-depth Excel and custom-programmed models designed to meet specific requirements. These include end-to-end CNG virtual pipeline applications for equipment sizing and process simulations, REFPROP-based compressor selection tools, and sales application tools to support the quoting process for OEMs. Bruno has experience with process design for thermal systems in the natural gas industry.  Bruno is a registered Professional Engineer with Engineers & Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC). 

Tracey Curtin

Office General Manager

Tracey Curtin has over 10 years’ experience in office management and provides administrative support to the Jenmar team. She oversees the client accounts/contracts, bookkeeping, customer service, financial management, human resources and puts the wheels in motion on important company endeavours. Tracey is instrumental in keeping Jenmar running smoothly. Her years spent in office management and customer service helped her gain important skills that allow her to provide the best service to our clients. She prides herself on having a strong work ethic, attention to detail, positive attitude and tremendous problem solving skills.
